Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to get started?

Install Mirage Host on the Mac you want to stream from, then open Mirage on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro. Both devices need to be on the same network for local streaming, or you can use Mirage Pro to connect when you are anywhere.

Is Mirage free?

Yes. Mirage has a generous free tier that includes non-Retina streaming, 30fps, 1 app window, and Apple Pencil support. Mirage Pro unlocks encrypted local media, 6K+ uncapped resolution, ProMotion, saved Macs, audio streaming with lossless options, and more.

How much does Mirage Pro cost?

Mirage Pro is $4.99/month or $39/year, with a free trial included. There is also a $119 lifetime option. Pay once and keep every Pro feature forever, including future updates.

Does Mirage work without a monitor connected?

Yes. Mirage fully supports headless Macs with no display attached. It creates a virtual display sized for the device you stream from, so your Mac doesn't need a physical monitor.

Can I use Mirage with someone else's Mac?

Yes. Devices on the same Apple Account find your Macs automatically through iCloud. For someone else's Mac, they can turn on Connect Anywhere and give you the address to add in Mirage.

Does Apple Pencil work with Mirage?

Yes. Mirage forwards full pressure, tilt, and orientation data from Apple Pencil, so you can use your iPad as a drawing tablet for apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate (via Sidecar-style workflows), and any other tablet-aware macOS app.

What's the difference between window streaming and desktop streaming?

Window streaming lets you stream individual app windows in isolation, such as Xcode, Figma, or a browser. Desktop streaming mirrors your entire Mac desktop as a virtual display, turning your device into a full second screen.

Can I wake and unlock my Mac remotely?

Remote wake and login unlock are experimental and may not be available in all configurations.

Does Mirage work over the internet?

Yes, with Mirage Pro. Mirage connects directly to your Mac using an address you control. Tailscale works well, and a router address can work too if you set one up.

Is my screen content sent to any servers?

No. Mirage streams directly between your devices. No screen content, audio, or input data ever passes through external servers. Connections through a saved address and Pro local sessions use AES-256 media encryption; free local sessions may run without encrypted media payloads.

What platforms does Mirage support?

Mirage is currently Apple-only. Mirage Host runs on macOS, and the Mirage client runs on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS.

What are the system requirements?

Mirage requires iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, or visionOS 26. Mirage Host requires macOS 26 on the Mac you stream from.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can manage or cancel your Mirage Pro subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings in the App Store. You'll keep Pro features until the end of your current billing period.
